General Membership Meeting Minutes November 10, 2014 The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Tom, K8TB. Secretary's Report: Minutes of the October 2014 meeting were accepted as published on the website. Treasurer's Report: General Fund: $4,313.62 Membership: $86.76 Total: $4400.38 Treasurer's report was accepted as read. Opening Remarks: The Club thanked our veterans with a round of applause in observance of Veterans’ Day. Upcoming events: Programs: November: 11/24 E.A.T.: Programming routers for Broadband-Hamnet (http://www.broadband-hamnet.org/) The CW Class continues each Monday at 7pm, and will be finishing this month. December: 12/8 Monthly Meeting: Solar24 (see below) 12/13: VE Testing & Ham in a Day (see below) 12/22 E.A.T.: TBD Solar24: At the December meeting, Jim Wolter, W9BWC and Ed Brandel, KD8ZPM from Solar24 out of Muskegon will give a presentation on solar power and battery storage. This is a rapidly changing field, and Solar24 is a West Michigan company that is at the forefront of this technology. They have a vested interest in amateur radio usage, including a separate website at http://www.solar24ham.com. They supplied the North Ottawa Amateur Radio Club their solar power for field day last year. VE Testing: VE Testing is conducted at the Red Cross on the second Saturday of each even-numbered month at 6pm. “Ham in a Day” events are held prior to the April, August, and December VE testing sessions at 1pm. The registration form for the December Ham in a Day class is located here: http://tinyurl.com/harchiad ARRL Centennial QSO Party: From the ARRL Website (http://www.arrl.org/centennial-qso-party): "The ARRL Centennial QSO Party is a year-long operating event that celebrates hams making contacts. In the end you will have accumulated points, worked new stations and made new friends all over the world. The Centennial QSO Party is made-up of two main activities: (1) W1AW operating portable in each state and most territories; and (2) The Centennial Points Challenge which is the accumulation of points from qualifying contacts made throughout 2014. To have a score listed online in the Points Challenge competition, logs must be submitted through the Logbook of the World (LoTW) system. W1AW will be on the air from every state and most territories, and it will be easy to work WAS working only W1AW portable operations. This is the first ARRL-sponsored operating event where every member is worth at least one point, so work as many points as you can during 2014! Earn awards based upon points, working all states or working W1AW portable in every state and territory. This is an on-the-air event like no other." Old Business: Club Meeting Location: Dan Goodwin is now in charge of the Holland Red Cross chapter. Tom talked to the Red Cross and he is unaware of any plans to close the Holland location at this time. New Business: Bryan, KD8LDX: The Skywarn team would like to restart the winter snowfall nets. Contact Bryan KD8LDX, Nick KD8JBG, or Laryn K8TVZ if you are interested. Elections for 2015 club officers will be held next month. Motion passed. HARC presents the “Ham of the Year” award annually to a member that has provided service to the club and promoted Amateur Radio. Ike, K8EMU: The Holland Parade of Lights (http://bit.ly/1vej6nN) will be held Tuesday, December 2nd. Tom, K8TB mentioned that volunteering at this event requires signing a liability waiver. The business meeting was adjourned at 7:19pm, followed by a presentation by Karl Roersma, W8KGR on Morse Code history and vintage CW equipment.
