Holland Amateur Radio Club General Membership Meeting Minutes for May 14, 2012 Meeting called to order by Ike, K8EMU at 7:05 PM. Ike had everyone introduce themselves. The secretary’s report was read and approved. The treasury report was read. The main account is at $4,737.92, and the new “membership” account is at $100.00. The report was approved as read. Old Business. Jim, KC8KE asked about the status of the two antennas bought by the club for the repeater. Laryn, K8TVZ reported that the south receive site had its antenna replaced, and we are waiting for a clear date from the tower climber for the hospital site. New Business. Education Committee. Chris, KC8RQT talked about various kits that the club members could build. Ike, K8EMU thanked Dave, WA8RSA and Bryan, KD8LDX for their work on the Tulip Time parade medical communications. Tom, K8TB indicated that Mike Mitchell from the Holland Red Cross seemed to be very pleased with the communications that many of the club members provided. Tom, K8TB made a motion for the club to enroll with Paypal to help facilitate membership payment. The cost will be less than $1.00 per $20.00 transaction. The motion was seconded and passed. Tom, K8TB then talked about FCC database mining to find out about expiring licenses within Ottawa County’s 22 main zip codes. It looks like W5YI is doing this. Tom will also be looking at using the FCC database to determine new and move in licenses. This was followed by general talk about increasing the club membership, especially among the younger generation. Dave, WA8RSA brought up that we should have mentors from the club who can help others with technical and operational needs. Events. Mike Smith, KC8WJA, from the Independent Repeater Association talked about the IRA’s swap coming up, and requested help from anyone who could help with setup and tear down. Field Day. Bryan, KD8LDX and Phil, K8PVH are the co-chairs for field day, and they are looking for band chairmen. A motion was made by Bryan, KD8LDX to officially have Field Day at the east end of the Ottawa County Fairgrounds in Park Township. This was seconded and passed. And as he has for 135 years, Jim, KC8KE will take care of the paperwork. :) Allegan County has put out a request for help with an upcoming Triathlon. The remainder of the meeting was talking about various governmental tower regulations and how amateur radio operators were working within those confinements. Meeting closed at 7:57 PM.
