Holland Amateur Radio Club Membership Meeting September 12, 2011 SOCIAL PROGRAM Introductions, welcome and opening remarks: Attendance: 31 members 6 guests Presentation: Mr. Mike Mitchell K9SKP of the American Red Cross and Mr. Jason MacKay KC8OVS presented an appeal to HARC members to support the Red Cross fully during Tulip Time and explained how Ottawa County Emergency Communications (OCEC) will perform the administration duties to coordinate amateur radio communications support for the Red Cross efforts during Tulip Time. Refreshments: Coffee and cookies. Thanks to the Gornaks for providing the treats this month. 50/50 Raffle: No 50/50 Raffle... General Announcements: Thank you Phil Vanhuis K8PVH for organizing amateur radio communications for the Alzheimer's Walk. Apologies for canceling the National Weather Service tours due to inclement weather... Apologies for canceling the Working Satellites demonstration due to inclement weather. We will try again October 10, 2011 and hope that the weather cooperates. The November meeting will be the annual banquet at Beechwood Inn. $20 per person, all-inclusive except for alcoholic beverage. The December meeting will be for elections and year-end wrap-up. BUSINESS MEETING Call to Order: 8:15pm. President's Remarks: Megan, WO0MEG In response to questions about the HARC Swap, Meg reminded all that there will be no Swap this year. The lack of a Swap Committee this spring, the $2,000 fee for the High School gymnasium that cost us $350 last year and the lack of any affordable venue, have caused the Board to recommend that HARC not hold a Swap this year. Other Announcements and Club Business: The Board recommends that HARC participate in three (3) amateur radio communications events, and suggested the Memorial Day Parade in May, the Alzheimer's Walk in August, and the Parade of Lights in December. Motion to approve participation in these events by Jim W8MRR, supported by Hank K8HLD, motion carried. HARC “events” and potential committee members Memorial Day Parade – needs a committee Alzheimer's Walk – K8PVH, Phil VanHuis Parade of Lights – K8EMU, Ike DeWitt Vice-president: Phil, K8PVH - Nothing to report. Secretary: Jim, N8QMD - Nothing reported. Treasurer: Jim, KC8KE Main account balance $3244.03 and the Swap account balance $2500.00, for a total of $5744.03. Motion to approve by Jim W8MRR, supported by Hank K8HLD, motion carried. Repeater: Laryn, K8TVZ Laryn K8TVZ identified the need for a new antenna on the main Repeater location on Holland Hospital, and one for the south receive site. He estimated costs on the order of $1,500. Authorization to replace Repeater equipment, not to exceed a total cost of $2,000 was moved, seconded and the motion carried. Laryn will begin repairs and report on his progress. Club Station: Dave, WA8RSA - Nothing reported. Emergency: Steve N8UJH – Nothing reported. Education: Ed, KF8EV HARC will suspend license classes this fall because of declining attendance. If a demand presents itself we will try to accommodate... New Business: Rick, N8GGO announced that nominations of Officers for 2012 are open, and will close by the October Meeting to allow timely preparation of Absentee Ballots.
