  • 2007 February Meeting Minutes

    Meeting was called to order at 7:17 PM by president Chuck, W8GCW, and introductions were made. 21 people filled in the sign-in sheet.

    * It was mentioned that Larry, K8GMO was recovering from surgery and would be out of the rest home by the end of the week.

    * Rich Le Blanc introduced himself and the upcoming Kinderplaats 2007 event on May 5 and 6, and asked the club about the possibility of an amateur radio demonstration at the event. The club decided to gather resources and recruit operators for the event, and put an announcement in QST.

    * Ed, KF8EV passed around a “get well” card for Bill McCully, who is recovering from cancer.

    * Chuck, W8GCW discussed the possibility of a booth at the Ottawa County Fair, and his concern over the expense and effort required for such a display.

    * Chuck, W8GCW mentioned several possible sources of Internet access for the clubhouse. Winter Sun has offered wireless access at $15 per month with the purchase of a $115 access point. The possibility of getting access from the Chamber of Commerce, Club Member cousin does IT work, was also mentioned, as was the information thus far gathered on getting a connection from Ernie, W8EL. DSL service from AT&T, at $19.95 per month, was also mentioned as an option.

    * Joe, N8FQ proposed and later moved that up to $30 of club funds be spent on a UHF FM radio. The motion was seconded and passed.

    * Steve, N8UJD moved that the January 2007 meeting minutes be approved. The motion was seconded and passed.

    * Jim, KC8KE gave the treasurer’s report. The main account had a balance of $6146.54, and the swap account had a balance of $129.54.

    * Ernie, W8EL stated that the QRS CW net will begin on February 27, and will be held each Tuesday thereafter at 8:30 PM on 28.395 MHz.
    It was mentioned that the first 2007 swap committee meeting will be held on the 17th at 9 AM.

    * Joe, N8FQ passed out the month’s correspondence: a flyer for the 2007 Ottawa County Skywarn training session, which will be held at Zeeland Middle School at 6:30 PM on March 22, and a flyer for the AES Superfest in Milwaukee, announcing the availability of club booths.

    * The business portion of the meeting concluded at 8:05 PM, and a short break was taken, during which Jim, KC8KE sold 50/50 tickets. The drawing was held at 8:24 PM. The $12 cash prize was won by Laryn, K8TVZ, a portable radio was won by Ernie, W8EL, and a camcorder was won by Ed, KF8EV. Four battery handbooks from Harding Energy were also given away, won by Ed, KF8EV Charlie,N8QEM and Larry, KA8TEY.

    * After the 50/50 drawing, a presentation on battery technology by Harding Energy, as recorded by Chuck, W8GCW, was shown.

    * People began leaving at 9:40 PM. The meeting was officially adjourned at 9:45 PM and the building was secured at approximately 10 PM.
